What happens if a lithium-ion battery overheats?

Small lithium-ion fires can be treated like any other combustible fire. For best results, use a foam extinguisher, carbon dioxide, ABC dry powder, graphite powder, copper powder, or baking soda (sodium carbonate). Halons are also used as fire extinguishing agents.
